    The first mock flight will operate from New Islamabad international airport on Saturday.

    The formal inauguration of the airport will take place on 20 April for all regular and international flights. Between 19 to 20 April the whole Benazir International Airport will be shifted the to new one. Spread over 19 square kilometers and designed in ‘Y’ shape, it has 15 passenger boarding bridges called jetties and a facility to accommodate two double deck A380, world largest airplanes. It has 15 remote bays and 7 remote bays for small aircrafts. In terms of passenger handling facility and landing, it will be the largest international airport of the country.

    With two runways 3.5km each, it also has 15 bays will the same number of lounges to avoid mixing of passengers. In the mock flight, the families of PIA employees were invited to go through the check-in procedure.

    New Islamabad international airport is located 30 km from Islamabad and its construction started on April 2007. Musharraf Rasool Cyan chief Executive officer of PIA will observe the mock flight.

    Separate car parking for airport staff has been built besides a public car parking that will accommodate 2200 to 2500 vehicles. Also, the airport will have five level security systems for baggage check, food court, mini-cinema, and children’s play area.
