Debit card users of Habib Bank Limited (HBL) have been notified that it will be only used in Pakistan. Those who already hold will be also subject to this new policy and new cards will be issued with international usage restriction.
This initiative by HBL has been taken keeping in view the recent hacks and illegal withdraw of money from HBL Debit Card internationally.
If the Customer now wants to use their HBL Debit Card internationally, they must get it unlocked first. The letter has also been circulated to all debit card holders and stated that we are committed to delivering secure transaction either locally or internationally. The policy will be in effect from 6 April 2018.
The letter sent by HBL to Debit Cardholders also stated that, for activation of international usage, call HBL phone banking i.e. 021-111-111-425. This applies to international use only and locally you can carry out the transaction without hesitation.
A skimming device scam that stole data from HBL customers in December 2017, it was revealed that from around 559 accounts Rs.10 million were stolen.
