Sindh forest department had planted 1,129,294 mangroves on the island near Keti Bunder in Thatta district of Sindh. By doing this it has also broken its early Guinness world record of planting most trees in 24 hours.
Nisar Khuhro parliamentary minister, transport minister Nasir Hussain Shah and MPA Ghulam Qadir Malkani were also present at the launching of plantation drive.
The forest department of Sindh holds the record of most trees in 24 hours and it was 84,275 trees in 2013 but now it has been successfully broken. The earlier were planted in Kharo Chaan, Thatta.
According to the guidelines of Guinness world record authorities the record has to be set in 24 hours by 300 planters during daylight hours.
According to forest secretary, navy’s tidal data was used to select April 19 as it has the maximum amount of daylight i.e. 12.5 hours. It was also mentioned that attempt was made from 6.30am till 7 pm.
It was said by CM Murad Ali Shah, that this attempt was made to highlight the importance of Indus delta mangroves.
