In the one-sided final with a clinching victory, Pakistani wrestler Mohammad Inam Butt has secured a first Gold medal for his country at Commonwealth Games. The final was against Melvin Bibo of Nigeria.
Inam has already won his first gold medal in 2010 commonwealth games in Delhi 8 years ago and yet again the 29 years old wrestler in only two rounds defeated his opponent by 6-0 points in 86kg freestyle wrestling category. This will be the first gold medal of Pakistan so far in this year’s Commonwealth games at Gold Coast Australia. Pakistanis have already won 4 bronze medals in different categories.
Inam won his first game against Australian Jayden Lawrence and in the quarterfinals thrashed his opponent Somveer of India to reach the semifinal, where he defeated Canada’s Alexander Moore to reach finals. In finals, Inam can be seen to be comfortable throughout and finished the game in two rounds.
In an interview, the gold medal winner Inam said that he demanded Rs.1 million from the government but didn’t get anything to prepare for the game. And he spent his own money along with some support from Pakistan wrestling federation and gladly won the Gold medal for my country. Four bronze won by Pakistanis are in wrestling and Weightlifting games.
