World's biggest photography competition

The world’s biggest photography competition is being held by the World Photography Organization (WPO) where three Pakistani photographers have been included all set to compete!

The event was of the Sony World Photography Awards where photography by Zohaib Tariq, Shahzad Khan and Kumail Rizvi are in the youth award categories as the top ten there.

The event takes place every year which is open to professionals as well as fresh youth distributed among other finer categories.

With a total of 186 countries, about 230,103 entries have been counted this year. This was a huge increased number of entries, with Pakistan having an increase by 137 pc.

For the youth competition, there is an under 19 year age limit where Kumail’s ‘human environment’ was shortlisted from the youth environment category. It was an aerial view of a car park in Malaysia.

The stunning close-up of a juvenile on the roads of the city was photographed by Shahzad Khan living in Islamabad which was named as ‘Awal Gul’ and was also shortlisted in the youth category.

Zohaib is another one residing in the capital, who photographed local farmers herding their animals and is a student at HITEC University Taxila. The selected Youth category photo was named as ‘Pakistan’.

Open and Youth winners shall be announced on 29th March whereas National Award Winners and Photographer of the year for overall youth and open shall be given on 15th March and 21st April respectively.

The awards shall take place from 22nd April to 8th May in London at the Somerset House where acclaimed leaders of this industry shall give one photographer of the year, one winner per category besides short listing 10 from each too.

US $ 30,000 shall be shared by the photographer of the year 2016 to be flown to London Awards exhibition. The category winners shall be given per free Sony product besides their photograph being published in the online exhibition as well as the winner’s book.
